A Standard Triac is a solid state bi-directional silicon switch designed for full wave AC applications to control AC power through full cycle switching or phase control of current to the load element. They provide guaranteed gate trigger current levels in Quadrants I, II, and III of an AC current cycle. Gate triggering currents of 10 mA, 25 mA, or 50 mA are offered. Standard Triacs are capable of controlling AC load currents from 0.8 to 35 amps and are rated to withstand operating voltages of 400 to 1,000 volts. Surface Mount Standard Triacs are available in DO214 3L (Compak), TO 252 and TO 263 packages. Thru Hole Standard Triacs are available into TO3, TO 92, TO 220, TO 220 Iso, TO 220 Non-Iso and TO 251 packages. Standard Triacs are used in motor speed controls, heater controls and incandescent lighting controls. Typical applications include AC switching and phase control for temperature modulation controls (heating controls for blow dryers), lighting controls (dimmer switches), motor speed controls (power tools) and AC static switching relays.
