Reed Relays

Reed Relays
Data Sheets »

A reed relay is an electrical switch that combines a reed switch and a copper coil that creates a magnetic field for tripping the switch. This provides galvanic isolation between the coil input and the controlled contact(s). Reed relays are offered in Dual-In-Line (DIL) or Single-In-Line (SIL) packages. They can be mounted on a printed circuit board or a socket. Because of the small size and magnetic efficiency of the reed switch, the power required to drive the coil is lower than most other types of relays. Other advantages include high insulation resistance, low contact resistance and long contact life. Options such as coil suppression diodes, electrostatic shields, and external magnetic shields are available. Reed relays are used in the automotive, telecommunication, security, test equipment, medical and process control applications.
